Why Book Club?
The club was started thanks to a few upper classmen who wanted a place to discuss the books they love. They would discuss them with me in the halls, but there was never enough time. We decided a club was needed to give ample time to discuss the books we love and the adaptations that, more often than not, made us so angry. It is our hope that between now and the end of the school year we will be able to read at least 5 books as a group.
What is Book Club?
The premise of Book Club is as follows: each month the students will read a book that has been turned into a movie. Each week we will come together to discuss the book, themes, how it relates to our lives, and analysis of the characters. When we have finished the book we will watch the film adaptation as a group, then compare the film to the novel. It is here that we will analyze the decisions by the film makers, how those changes change viewers’ perception of the characters and the story line as a whole.
